A Mom's Saturday

7am - Rise to sound of Abby moaning on baby monitor, put in contact lenses, pull on clothes, go to Abby's room, feed Abby a bottle, play with her and Jake in her room, dress Abby, go to Jake's room, cajole him into wearing one of his clean pairs of pants, keep Abby from eating his pens and crayons, go down, make breakfast for Abby and me, eat breakfast with Abby, Jake and husband, empty dishwasher, put away dishes, wipe counters, sweep floor, watch sid the science kid, twice, while Abby pulls out as many toys and books as she can, make a bottle, put Abby down for a nap, doze, help Jake do shrinky dinks "by himself" (tell him where to look for holepunch, where to look for colored pencils, where to look for his scissors, preheat oven, turn on ovenlight, watch shrinkage, ooh and aah), get Abby up, give Abby her pink duckie, watch her suck her thumb and stroke the duckie, change to workout clothes, walk on treadmill in garage, listen to E. John, J. Lennon, P. Simon and J. Taylor on husband's iPod, do stretches on carpet on garage floor, take shower, dress again, sing songs to Abby in living room, eat lunch with Abby on my lap with Jake and husband, listen to Jake chatter nonstop, put away dishes, let Abby crawl around the house, fix URGENT shrinky dink string problem, make bottle, put Abby down for nap, go down, leave Jake in den for "quiet time," go up, climb into bed, nap, wake up, go downstairs to find Jake buried under couch cushions and plastic playmats arranged like a beaver's den, fast asleep, wake him, go up, wake Abby up, go down and make bottle, take kids outside to back deck and watch them play in sandbox and in the midst of over 20 sand toys, fight over the same shovel, come in, let Jake select a Baby Einstein DVD (Baby Van Gogh), insist that it be a Baby Einstein DVD, not the other one that he wants that Abby won't like, try to keep Abby from ruining Jake's ever enlarging beaver den while TV is on and husband cooks dinner, get up, wash hands, eat dinner, put away dishes, turn on dishwasher, wipe counters, smile big when babysitter arrives, get asked twice by Jake "when are you guys leaving?", change clothes, put on make-up for first time today, kiss Jake goodbye as he's working on his beaver den with babysitter's help, manage to kiss Abby goodbye as she's gleefully throwing crayons out of the box , get in car, have a great date night, come home four hours later and find den, living room and kitchen completely clean (dishwasher emptied!) and kids asleep, tell babysitter she is a godsend, change clothes, kiss husband goodnight, take contact lenses out, read, take cold medicine, turn baby monitor on, fall asleep-- 12am, next day.
